Responsibilities
The Senior Associate Director of Development for the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences will design and execute a personal solicitation program resulting in philanthropic support by maximizing the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects for gifts at the $100,000 and up level. This individual will secure, on an annual basis, private support at the major gift range and will also be responsible for identification of potential major gift prospects. This individual will be expected to uphold and exemplify the operating practices and mission of the Foundation.
Strategic Fundraising Development
Works with the Dean, Assistant Dean for Development, and other members of the College’s development, communication and alumni team to develop and execute strategic fundraising initiatives on behalf of the College, the University and the Foundation. Develops, coordinates and executes an annual major gift plan of the Anne Spencer Daves College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences, implementing fund-raising activities designed to meet an established monetary goal. Establishes new relationships resulting in philanthropic revenue, maintains existing relationships which may generate new philanthropic revenue, and provides prospect/donor-related assessments of the performance of the College of Human Sciences and the FSU Foundation. Identifies, qualifies and sustains a donor prospect portfolio with individuals who have a giving capacity of $100,000 or more. Secures gifts and pledges from alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends of FSU.
Administrative/Events
Prepares proposals and gift agreements as required for proper gift documentation. Prepares correspondence with prospects and documents communications, solicitation activity and gift information in compliance with Foundation reporting guidelines. Creates, inspires and maintains donor loyalty, interest and enthusiasm through stewardship communication and activities designed to express recognition, appreciation and the impact of their gift(s). Implementation of such a stewardship plan may include but should not be limited to letters, communication of unit or university initiatives, invitations to appropriate activities, meetings, events, student engagement or the facilitation of campus visits.
Central Development Collaboration
Coordinates with FSU Foundation colleagues to identify prospects for planned giving, corporate and foundation giving, and major giving. Exhibits and promotes a comprehensive understanding of the philanthropic priorities of the college unit, effectively matching the specific interests of prospects to those specific needs. Assists in the facilitation of meetings, communications, informational exchanges and project/philanthropic coordination with the faculty and faculty chairs. Plans for and initiates direct activities with prospects that are designed to enhance the affiliation between the prospect and the University. Protects confidential information. Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Qualfications
Bachelor's degree and five years’ experience related to administrative services or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to nine years.
Valid FL or GA Driver's License or the ability to obtain.
Preferred
3-5 years of fundraising, or comparable sales, experience
Subject matter expertise in one of the broad areas of program coverage: education, health sciences, and/or sports

Who is an ideal candidate for this position? The ideal candidate will be a skilled problem solver with a natural curiosity, love of lifelong learning, and enthusiasm for the work of others. They will work hard to understand the needs of the college and communicate those needs effectively to donors at the major gift level down to annual support. Strong communication skills are required as well as an affinity for relationship building with external constituents and internal stakeholders.
What is a typical day in this position? Senior Associate Directors of Development utilize a moves management strategy to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of 100-125 major gift donor relationships. The typical day may involve planning travel to visit prospects in a major market, meeting with local faculty member to discuss program needs and having coffee with a major donor prospect to solicit their support. The job is as customizable as the individual relationships in the portfolio, but all lead to better supporting the College.
What can I expect in the first 60-90 days? New Senior Associate Directors of Development can expect to spend much of their first 90 days in conversation with faculty and chairs, learning the programs and the culture of the college, attending college events, and working with prospect research and management to build a portfolio of prospects for qualification, cultivation, and solicitation. Within the first 90 days, the candidate might also anticipate taking a minimum of 3-4 prospecting trips to major markets to begin building relationships and soliciting support.
