Welcome back! Can you believe it’s September already? Summer is basically behind us, though Vancouver always gives us a beautiful September. I only managed one ocean swim this year, but I packed my calendar with Bard on the Beach, Theatre Under the Stars, Arts Club plays, and Opera, and Symphony in the Park. Summer was rich in experiences, even if it wasn’t full of beach days.
Still, I never really mourn summer. For me, Labour Day is a turning point. The flip of a mental switch. Suddenly, it feels like the next stop is Christmas. (And my Filipino friends agree - José Mari Chan is already singing his way through malls, and Christmas trees are going up!)
But here’s why I actually love September: it’s one of the most powerful times of year to reset. Along with January, it’s a season of pivots. Vacations are over, routines come back, and there’s fresh energy in the air. Kids return to school, workplaces hit their stride again, and we get that “new chapter” feeling without the pressure of New Year’s resolutions.
I see this shift clearly in my work. Every September, inquiries from candidates spike. People who spent the summer reflecting on life and career suddenly reach out ready for a change. It’s like the season itself gives permission to move forward.
If you’re feeling that pull right now, you’re not alone. Maybe the quiet of summer sparked questions: Am I fulfilled? Am I ready for something new? September is the time to act on those reflections—to turn rejuvenation into momentum.
Because that’s the power of this season: it’s not just about having rested, it’s about what you choose to do with that renewed energy.
👉 And if part of that energy is pointing you toward a career change, I’d love to hear from you. Whether you’re actively searching or just curious about what might be out there, September is a perfect time to start the conversation.
