Primary Purpose of the Position:
The primary purpose of the Senior Director of Development at Winston-Salem State University is to lead and expand the Major Gifts Program by developing and implementing strategic initiatives that grow the donor pipeline and increase philanthropic support. This role is responsible for cultivating relationships with major donors, overseeing a team of Gift Officers, and building systems that enhance fundraising efforts. The Senior Director will collaborate closely with university leadership to ensure that fundraising activities align with WSSU's mission and institutional priorities, ultimately driving sustainable financial growth to support the university's long-term success. 1
Preferred Years Experience,Skills, Training , Education:
Advanced degree preferred with at least 6 years of progress experience within the industry. Prior fundraising experience, preferably in higher education or non-profit management. Ability to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals and positions. Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage many projects simultaneously. Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills. Skilled at collaborating with various stakeholders. Attention to detail. Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Appreciation for and support of the mission, tradition, and culture of the University.
