For more than 85 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) has ignited the unlimited potential of kids and teens by creating safe, inclusive, and engaging environments. Our 26 Clubs located in 10 counties across metropolitan Atlanta serve 7,000+ kids & teens (ages 6-18) each year, offering youth development programs during critical non-school hours that promote academic success, healthy lifestyles, and character & leadership. BGCMA also oversees Camp Kiwanis, a 160-acre outdoor residence camp. BGCMA has entered a phase in which creating a major gifts program is necessary. Growth in individual giving is a key component of our Rise2025 strategic plan. We are seeking a passionate and driven Major Gifts Officer to join our team and play a critical role in advancing our mission.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies to cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of major donors. This individual will work closely with the Senior Director of Individual Giving and other key stakeholders to ensure the growth of the organization’s major gifts program. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of securing major gifts and a passion for youth development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:
- Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, building strong relationships to deepen their engagement with the organization.
- Create and implement individualized donor strategies to increase giving levels and secure major gifts.
- Conduct regular donor meetings and calls to cultivate and steward relationships.
Solicitation and Fundraising:
- Lead the solicitation process, including preparing proposals, presentations, and other materials.
- Collaborate with program staff to understand funding needs and translate them into compelling donor opportunities.
Program Development and Strategy:
- Work with the Senior Director of Development to develop and refine the major gifts program, setting strategic priorities and goals.
- Identify and research new major gift prospects, leveraging data and analytics to inform strategies.
- Stay informed about industry trends and best practices in major gift fundraising.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other members of the Resource Development team to ensure a coordinated approach to fundraising.
- Engage with the Board of Directors and other volunteers to support major gift initiatives.
- Communicate the impact of donor contributions through personalized updates, reports, and recognition.
EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in major gifts fundraising, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
- Proven track record of securing gifts of $10,000 or more.
- Experience in planned giving is a plus but not required.
- Experience co-creating a multi-faceted engagement with a donor as well as experience in prospecting and qualifying potential donors.
- Knowledge of nonprofit governance and experience managing relationships with volunteer leadership and stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to edit other’s work and to write and speak in clear and compelling ways
- Willingness to work periodic weekends and evenings to meet with donors and/or attend special events
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and flexibility with demanding workloads; Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are a must.
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel, Word, & PowerPoint. Experience using project management software such as Asana.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge or Salesforce a must.
- Passion for youth development for underserved communities and/or addressing social injustice a significant plus, as well as a commitment to the mission Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta.
ENVIRONMENT & WORKING CONDITIONS:
Normal internal office environment with occasional need to travel to club locations within the Metro Atlanta area. Frequent internal contacts with employees throughout organization required.

Exempt employees are not entitled, under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), to the protections of the wage and hour laws of the state or the FLSA. Exempt employees must always be paid on a salary basis and not be subject to reduction based on the quality or quantity of work performed.
