Description: Job Description Summary: The Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving Officer supports the Director of Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving in creating and implementing a comprehensive and dynamic strategy that enhances the Advancement department's efforts to build relationships with Samuel Merritt University (SMU) alumni, faculty, staff, University friends, and community partners through:
* Communications: meaningful University news, stories, and information.
* Events: reunions, continued medical education, social, and celebratory.
* Volunteerism: reunion committees, alumni panels, peer-to-peer fundraisers.
* Giving opportunities: giving days, solicitation campaigns, crowdfunding.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Fundraising: Increase donor engagement and giving through portfolio outreach, visits, and stewardship.
- Volunteer Management: Serve as the primary liaison to alumni groups, reunion committees and the annual employee giving committee.
- Event Assistance : Plan, develop, manage, and evaluate onsite, offsite, and virtual alumni-related activities, including University Advancement events, workshops, and reunions that work toward building alumni life-long connections with SMU. Serve as point-person for alumni, donor, cultivation, and fundraising events with the strategic goal of increasing financial support to SMU.
- Communication/Stewardship: Assist in drafting clear and professional communications for donors and alumni, ensuring consistent messaging and support the annual giving operation.
- Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support to the Advancement team, including scheduling meetings, maintaining files, and preparing correspondence.
Education and/or Experience:- Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
- 2 years' minimum fundraising experience with a demonstrated knowledge/understanding of the entire giving cycle; academic setting preferred.
- Experience as a project and/or event coordinator.
- Demonstrated competence in applications such as Microsoft Office, Monday.com, Raiser's Edge NXT, Teams, Thankview, and Workday.

- Ability to relate and communicate with donors, alumni, and University faculty and staff.
- Ability to carry out prudent budget planning, volunteer supervision, and project oversight.
- Willingness to work occasional evenings/weekends and to travel periodically (principally in California).
- Knowledge of the mission of SMU, and connected to SMU communities: Bay Area, Sacramento, and/or Fresno.
