Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
The executive director will focus on the following areas:
Leadership and Strategic Direction:
- Proven experience in executive leadership roles within nonprofit organizations.
- Ability to provide visionary and strategic leadership.
- Strong organizational development skills to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Financial Management:
- Proven track record of successful fundraising and financial management.
- Skills in budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Ability to secure funding through grant writing, donor relations, and exploring new revenue streams.
Fundraising:
- Leading comprehensive fundraising efforts, including grant writing, donor cultivation, and partnership development.
- Creating and executing fundraising plans with the Board and development team.
Organizational Development and Management:
- Experience in identifying and addressing organizational challenges, including staff burnout and capacity constraints.
- Skills in developing and implementing staff succession plans.
- Ability to manage and develop staff, ensuring competitive compensation and professional development.
Board Relations:
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and understanding nonprofit governance.
- Ability to facilitate board meetings and ensure effective communication and collaboration between the Board and staff.
Strategic Planning and Implementation:
- Driving the implementation of strategic plans, focusing on funding, branding, programming, staffing, and facility improvements.
- Ensuring that strategic goals are realistic, achievable, and phased to support sustainable growth.
Communications:
- Skilled at written communication for grant writing oversight, administrative correspondence, periodic portal management, and staff proof-reading.
Location / Availability:
- Ability to be onsite with short notice for emergencies.
- Hybrid availability to work onsite 3 days a week with 2 days remote average.
- Availability for periodic weekend hours for exhibition openings and periodic weekend programming.
Preferred Experience. Not Required:
Arts / Arts Admin Experience:
- Background or experience with a creative field (such as printmaking, painting, theater, etc.)
- Experience with basic exhibition practices including hanging artwork, creating labels, and creating corresponding marketing / press.
- Adobe Suite, Squarespace, and Mailchimp experience preferred but not required.
