Required: A Bachelor's degree in business, non-profit management, or similar field.
Must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, and be detail-oriented. Must skillfully operate a personal computer. Must have experience in development, fundraising, and/or related areas, and have a knowledge of donor relations and fundraising principals. Seeking an enthusiastic and adaptable team player who is willing to work in a multidisciplinary program. Must be willing to travel.
Any qualifications to be considered as equivalents, in lieu of stated minimums, require the prior approval of the Human Resources Director.
Preferred: A Master's degree in business, non-profit management, or similar field, and having gained some or all work experience in a university development or higher education fundraising. Prefer candidates familiar with data analytics tools.
Primary Responsibilities
Candidate will manage a portfolio of major gift donors for Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) at Sul Ross State University (SRSU), by identifying and cultivating prospects, and stewarding donors to support research and programs. Working with BRI faculty and staff, the candidate will create fundraising strategies, travel to meet donor schedules, and direct and oversee the BRI Grants Coordinator.Primary duties Steward BRI (75% of time) and SRSU (25% of time) fundraising and outreach activities for the benefit of faculty, staff, and students; projects and programs; donor relationships, and related constituents. Perform other duties as assigned.Example tasks include, but are not limited to:- Manage a portfolio of major gifts, donors, and prospects.
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit prospects and steward donors to support BRI and SRSU.
- Provide guidance on major gifts and fundraising strategies to advance our mission.
- Create and implement development plans to increase financial support for our projects and programs.
- Coordinate with SRSU Advancement Office to ensure gifts are appropriated correctly and acknowledgement/tax letters and documents are sent to donors.
- Coordinate with BRI Director and Advisory Board, and the Borderlands Research Foundation (BRF) Board of Directors to manage gift accounts, balances, documentation, etc.
- Provides oversight of grant-writing and proposal processes. Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others; must exercise due caution and practice safe work habits at all times, including maintaining data security and confidentiality.
