Social Worker
Full-Time 1 Year Contract Starting January 2026

JOB PURPOSE
As a key member of the Student Wellbeing team, the Social Worker will work with students and
their families within our Middle School division, with the objective of optimizing their overall
wellbeing at school. Reporting to the Associate Head, Wellbeing, the Social Worker will have a
comprehensive understanding of the psychosocial needs of young children, and will support
students and families in addressing the social, behavioural, and emotional factors which impact a
student's overall school experience.
This role follows a 10âmonth work schedule aligned with the academic year, working from
late August to late June each year and is off during the summer.
Given the dynamic and collaborative nature of our school environment, this role is an on-campus
position requiring to be on-campus five days a week. Candidates should be prepared to
contribute actively to this in-person, community-focused environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
â Consultation with students, parents and faculty; provide guidance and assistance in
support of the psychosocial health and well-being of students
â Provide individual, group and family counselling
â Conduct assessments of students’ needs
â Support the enhancement of partnerships with community agencies and outside
professionals to ensure optimal support for students and the school community; liaise
with community agencies as required
â Provide crisis intervention services
â Develop and facilitate groups for students
â Establish a visible and approachable presence in the Middle School community
â Participate in team meetings and regular planning regarding individual case management
and school-wide programs
â Manage and maintain student records and caseload ensuring services are integrated and
seamless
â Understand, and practice in accordance with, federal, provincial, and local laws, statutes,
and/or policies that relate to students and families; such as, child protection/child abuse,
special education, attendance, education rights and privacy
â Participate in The York School events, and contribute to the health and wellbeing within
the community
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
â Masters degree in Social Work (or equivalent) and membership in good standing with the
Ontario College of Social Workers
â Minimum 5 years’ experience, including experience working in an educational and clinical
settings with children
â Knowledge of the Social Work and Social Service Work Act, The Child and Family
Services Act, Education Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Mental Health Act
â Ability to identify, assess and respond to sensitive and confidential student and
community issues
â Proven ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team,
contributing to a positive, inclusive school culture
â Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
â Strong ability to engage collaboratively with students, parents, and staff, prioritizing a
service-oriented approach by ensuring professionalism, respect, and responsiveness in
all interactions
â Demonstrated ability to respectfully manage high conflict, challenging situations
â Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage competing
priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
â Proficiency in navigating a technologically rich school environment, with expertise in
Google Workspace considered an asset

WHAT WE OFFER
The target hiring range for this position is $95,000 to $110,000 per year, based on skills,
qualifications, and relevant experience. This hiring range reflects the role’s schedule aligned with
the academic year (working late August to late June), and is based on 10 months of work
annually.
