The Development Specialist will be instrumental in supporting our small team with client relations/stakeholder engagement, sourcing and assessing funding opportunities, grant administration, writing and copy-editing, data input, and supporting large donor engagement and stewardship in the non-profit and charitable sector. This position will allow for on-the-job training support and advancement. We are a small, tight-knit and supportive team looking for a new member, and we’re interested in growing together over time.

Duties and Responsibilities:

GRANT AND REPORT WRITING:

Grant and Report Writing: Craft compelling stories and narratives about clients' mission, programming, their impacts and how they advance meaningful change for their communities.
Create and compile secondary documents including, for example, budgets, work plans, and letters of support.
Prospecting: Prospect research, information gathering, qualification of opportunities based on eligibility and alignment, tracking prospects, creating a pipeline for prospects based on client needs and deadlines.
Project Ideation and Creation: Collaborate with clients to define project proposals taking into account funders’ priorities, funding history, and clients’ needs and goals.

OPERATIONS:

Grant Administration: Liaise with the team to confirm eligibility and qualification of new grant prospects, create draft grant documents across the client base.
Tracking: Maintain internal and external systems to track submitted, in progress, and prospective grants to support client communications, relations, and expectations across client base.
Participate in Tend team meetings and co-work sessions as required and develop supportive, and respectful relationships with Tend’s team and clients.
Prepare correspondence and other administrative support duties as required.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in the arts, social sciences, or a related field.
Strong understanding of the charitable sector, with experience and knowledge working within arts and/or Indigenous organizations is considered an asset.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals, reports, and various fundraising materials.
Strong organizational, administrative and financial skills, with the ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
Creative and innovative thinking skills, with a community-centric and solutions-focused approach to fundraising and relationship building.
Strong understanding of philanthropic trends and best practices in fundraising, including donor cultivation, stewardship, and recognition strategies is considered an asset.
Commitment to social justice with an understanding of the importance of intersectionality, decolonization, and/or gender equity.

Salaries and Benefits:

Annual salary of $67,500 - $72,500, commensurate with experience, including a generous benefits package and health care spending account, and opportunities for professional development.
Flexible, remote working environment with a 4-day work week (Monday - Thursday) after a probationary period.
Paid time off: Three weeks (15 days) of paid vacation are provided and Tend typically closes over the December holiday period (6-8 days), providing a handful of additional paid days off for staff to rest and recharge. Full-time staff are also provided with 90 hours of PTO.
The entire team enjoys all statutory holidays in all provinces and territories where Full-time staff reside.

We work with values-aligned community-led organizations to articulate and narrativize their organization, its projects, and its strategy for changing the world. Our services are aimed at clarifying concepts and projects to produce conceptually fluent, relatable, and consistent content that reflects the goals and values of the organizations we support in order to help advance their aims.

We work with values-aligned charities, non-profit organizations, First Nations, and other community organizations. We are seeking candidates with demonstrated experience writing on issues such as arts engagement, climate change and environmental justice, Indigenous language revitalization, decolonization, and other social justice–oriented areas. Experience working with, or writing for, First Nations or other Indigenous-focused organizations is considered a strong asset.
