Howard Payne University invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Advancement (VPA). This role reportsdirectly to the President and is on the Executive Leadership Team. The Vice President for Advancement will play a key role in advancing theinterests of the University as it seeks to make an impact for the Kingdom of God.

Purpose: The Vice President forAdvancement works with and advises the President on all matters pertaining to the management and operation of University Advancement. TheVice President for Advancement is responsible for leading the Advancement division in developing resources to ensure a strong base offinancial support for the University and sends communications and marketing both internally and externally to strengthen HPU’s brand. Inconjunction with the President, this position acts as a representative and ambassador to the University's constituents and promotes positiverelationships and strong partnerships for the University.
Essential Functions:
Fundraising Leadership:
- Works with the President, other Vice Presidents, and trustees on collaborative projects. Takes a leadership role in working withvarious groups and organizations on matters of mutual concern.
- Solicits alumni, businesses, foundations, trustees,faculty, staff, and other friends of the University for financial support.
- Directs the major donor solicitation programand develops long-range plans for the University fund raising.
- Enlists the involvement of the president, trustees, andother University officers in major donor contacts.
- Secures financial support for the University, including gifts forunrestricted operations; restricted operations; scholarships; endowment; and capital campaigns and projects.
DepartmentalLeadership:
- Sets internal Advancement division policies and priorities. Develops long and short-term goals, strategies, andapproaches to ensure successful annual fund and capital campaigns.
- Coordinates and supervises University Advancement fundraising programs, including donor contacts; annual fund; capital campaigns; foundation and corporate giving; estate and planned giving.
- Coordinates and supervises University Advancement support programs, including the use of development/alumniadministrative software; contribution/pledge processing; contribution/pledge acknowledgements; donor recognition; special events to honordonors and to cultivate prospective donors; development publications; and the annual budget for the University Advancement departments.
- Supervises the Associate VP for Marketing and Communications and related efforts to strengthen HPU’s brand both on campusand externally with alumni and friends.
- Provides leadership for staff training in University Advancement responsibilitiesincluding: donor contact and cultivation, solicitation of selected major gift donors; gift needs analysis and proposal planning;contribution/pledge processing and acknowledgment; gifts stewardship; gift reporting; as well as personnel objectives and performanceevaluation.
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred: Doctoral Degree
Experience: Proven track record of fundraising success with a minimum of ten years’ experience soliciting major gifts fromindividuals, corporations, and foundations is required. Must be able to demonstrate solid capital campaign/major gifts experience.
