Would you like to play a crucial role in building the first hospice in North Halton? We are a
charitable organization committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals
and families during their most vulnerable moments. Working in partnership with the community,
donors, and government, we are leading an initiative to design, fund, and build a residential
hospice that will provide compassionate end-of-life care close to home.
As the North Halton Hospice enters an exciting new chapter of transformation, we’re looking to
grow the number of volunteer board members who can contribute their professional experience,
sound judgment, and commitment to effective governance.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute at a strategic level before the hospice is built,
supporting organizational development, accountability and long-term community impact. We
welcome candidates with diverse perspectives, leadership experience, and a demonstrated
commitment to community service.
Role Overview
Board Directors provide governance oversight of strategic direction, financial stewardship, and
long-term sustainability. In collaboration with fellow directors and leadership, they contribute to
informed decision-making, accountability including ensuring compliance with regulatory
obligations and maintaining organizational credibility. Directors also serve as ambassadors,
supporting relationships that strengthen the Hospice’s impact and champion our values in the
community.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Provide governance and strategic oversight in alignment with the Hospice’s mission,
priorities, and fiduciary obligations
• Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in Board as well as committee meetings
• Review and contribute to strategic plans, policies, and key organizational decisions
• Oversee the organization’s financial management, acting as stewards of its resources,
ensuring financial health, compliance and sustainability
• Contribute to long-term planning and organizational growth
• Participate in and support fundraising initiatives and donor engagement efforts
• Act as an ambassador for the Hospice within the community and professional networks
• Board Directors are responsible for acting in the best long-term interests of the Hospice
and the community.
• Help ensure that North Halton Hospice continues to be a beacon of hope and care in this
community

Skills and Experiences
We are seeking individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Governance (Certification is an asset)
• Finance, accounting, or audit (CPA designation is desirable)
• Human resources
• Legal or risk management
• Healthcare, hospice, or community-based services
• Senior leadership or executive experience
What You Bring
• Passion for hospice care and community service
• Strategic thinking and sound judgment
• Strong leadership, collaboration, and communication skills
• The ability to contribute to governance-level discussions
• A collaborative, professional approach to board service as well as commitment to active
participation and advocacy
Time Commitment
• Approximately 6 hours per month
• Attendance at regular Board meetings (approximately 6 per year)
• Participation in committee work and Hospice events as needed
• Terms of Office – 3-year commitment
