The mission of Read Alliance is to accelerate the educational trajectory of early elementary students through the power of teens who provide one-to-one literacy tutoring in under-resourced communities. Read Alliance’s dual-impact model addresses the achievement gap for young students while engaging youth in serving their communities as paid reading tutors. Established in 2000, Read Alliance is a not-for-profit corporation that improves the chances for academic success of children we serve by ensuring they possess the reading skills necessary to read on grade level by third grade.
Over the past 26 years, Read Alliance’s dual impact intervention program has proved to make a significant difference in the long-term success of the students and youth it has served. More than 23,000 early elementary students have received reading intervention through Read Alliance’s one-to-one model delivered by over 22,000 trained Teen Leaders meaningfully employed as individual reading tutors. Read Alliance pre- and post-assessment data has consistently shown that after just one program cycle, students who receive Read Alliance intervention average more than a full year’s growth in foundational reading skills.
