Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe
Senior Associate / Associate Athletic Director for Development is a major gifts officer and is responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift donors and prospects for the Athletics Department. This position serves as the primary liaison between the Office of University Advancement and the leadership of the Athletics Department.
- Helps design and execute a fundraising agenda that will support and advance the Athletics agenda; develop and secure leadership gifts for Athletics
- Coordinates and tracks major gift fundraising efforts through capital projects, endowments, Circle of Excellence and the Yosef Club
- With University Advancement staff, analyzes and evaluates current and past donor trends for Athletics constituencies, and targets segments of donors and prospects for personalized attention, new and upgraded gifts, and special giving opportunities
- Develops formal proposals to donors and prospects for support using persuasive language to promote visionary gift opportunities
- Monitors and reports on progress toward dollar and donor goals for Athletics
- Conduct stewardship, including gift acknowledgments/thank you correspondence, recognition, communications and special events for major gift donors to capital projects, endowments, and the Yosef Club
- Files timely and accurate contact reports on donor calls to ensure information sharing
- Works closely with gift officers from other academic units to monitor overlap between lists of major gifts donors, and other prospects to ensure that contact strategies are developed in a coordinated fashion and that no donors or prospects are overlooked
- Coordinates Athletics Development staff for funding of special projects; responsibilities include: conferring with coaches and Athletics Department staff on project description and needs, identifying potential prospects, and coordinating the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors for these initiatives
- Coordinates travel to key cities by the Deputy Athletics Director, Athletics Director and coaches to see athletics major prospects, including setting appointments, arranging events, and follow-up, and accompanying these individuals as needed
- Meets monthly with the Directors of Development team in the Advancement Office
- Works collaboratively with administration, faculty, advisory board members, volunteers, and others in Athletics, the Advancement Office and across the University
- Works closely with the central development staff including the Office of Annual Giving and Donor Relations to effectively implement annual giving and donor stewardship plans
- Represents the Appalachian State University Foundation, Inc. and the University at key development and alumni events and fundraising or donor engagement opportunities
- Maintains compliance with procedures in coordination with the Office of Gift Processing to ensure effective collecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgment and follow-up on all gifts
Work Schedule/Hours:Mon-Fri, 8:00-5:00 pm except when travel, evening and weekend work is required
