Position Overview:

As the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MOV, you will be the visionary at the helm, guiding the museum into its next chapter of impact and innovation. Reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you’ll have the opportunity to shape the future of Vancouver’s most storied cultural institution. Your leadership will drive our strategic direction, foster a culture of creativity and inclusivity, and ensure that MOV continues to be a beacon of connection and inspiration for the city.

Key Responsibilities:

Champion Board Collaboration:

Forge a powerful partnership with the Board Chair and Committee Chairs to craft and execute policies that will shape the future of MOV.
Be the go-to expert, providing the Board with the insights and information they need to lead with confidence.
Cultivate a dynamic working relationship with the Board, ensuring their expertise is fully leveraged in decision-making and strategic oversight.

Lead Strategic Visioning:

Co-create and steer the next chapter of MOV’s Strategic Plan alongside the Board of Directors, setting ambitious goals that reflect the Museum's mission and the city’s evolving needs.
Align MOV’s vision with the City of Vancouver’s strategic goals, embedding principles of First Nations Reconciliation into every facet of our strategy.

Drive Operational Excellence:

Craft an Annual Operating Plan that brings our Strategic Plan to life, translating big-picture goals into actionable, measurable outcomes.
Regularly review and adapt the plan to ensure we’re always on the cutting edge of cultural innovation and community engagement.

Inspire and Empower Teams:

Build and nurture an organizational structure that empowers staff to excel and grow, creating an environment where creativity and collaboration thrive.
Champion a culture of excellence with a performance management system that recognizes and rewards outstanding contributions.

Lead with Purpose:

Be a visible, inspiring leader who connects with staff at all levels, fostering a culture of open communication and mutual respect.
Navigate and strengthen relationships with CUPE 15 union representatives, ensuring a positive and productive work environment.

Be the Voice of MOV:

Take center stage as the primary spokesperson for MOV, leading advocacy efforts that amplify our mission and impact.
Cultivate strong, strategic relationships with key stakeholders in government and the community, positioning MOV as a leader in the arts and cultural sector.

Expand Our Reach:

Build and sustain meaningful connections with stakeholders, fellow institutions, and influencers in the tourism, cultural, entertainment, and business sectors.
Ensure MOV is front-and-center at key events, making sure our voice is heard and our presence felt across the city.

Steward Financial Health:

Oversee the development of robust financial controls, policies, and systems that ensure MOV’s financial resources are managed effectively.
Collaborate with staff and external auditors to deliver transparent, timely financial reporting to the Board.

Cultivate Credibility:

Maintain the highest standards of integrity and communication with partner groups, business leaders, and government officials, enhancing MOV’s reputation and influence.

What You Bring:

Education:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is essential.
A Master’s degree in Arts or Business Administration will set you apart.

Experience:

You have a minimum of 7 to 10 years in executive leadership within the arts and cultural sector, ideally in a non-profit setting.
You’re skilled in navigating multi-union environments, with a proven ability to interpret and apply collective agreements.

Skills:

You excel in digital and electronic communication, with a flair for connecting with diverse audiences.
You’re a natural leader with exceptional interpersonal skills, able to inspire and motivate teams to achieve greatness.
Your communication skills—both written and verbal—are top-notch, making you a compelling advocate for MOV.

Requirements:

A deep commitment to the principles of Truth and Reconciliation.
A passion for promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in every aspect of your work.

Benefits:

Salary Range: $165,000 - $200,000
Work Format: Primarily On-Site.
Vacation: Four weeks
