The Organization

Mooredale is an established non-profit organization that welcomes people of all ages to experience a wide range of educational, recreational, social and cultural activities. Supported by families and volunteers, Mooredale builds on a rich history of providing programs and services to the community while embracing fresh ideas for the future.

Rosedale-Moore Park Association also known as Mooredale House (Mooredale) is home to the city’s longest running neighbourhood fair, Mayfair (since 1946), a fully licensed preschool (since 1952), summer and March Break camps (since 1968), Mooredale Concerts (since 1986), the Mooredale Swimming Pool Club (since 1972), the Mooredale Soccer Club (since 1976), and a host of other popular recreational programs and community events for participants of all ages. Mooredale is also proud to have been affiliated with Mooredale Sailing Club and Rosedale Tennis Club.

What Mooredale Offers

Summer Day Camp:

Mooredale Day Camp offers a traditional, coed summer camp experience for campers 4 to 12 years old for 8 weeks from July 1-August 23. The program is modeled around two-week sessions (with one-week options). Each day campers participate in group activities throughout the morning, including swimming lessons based on the Red Cross curriculum and taught by the Mooredale Pool Club Instructors. They are an Accredited Camp of the Ontario Camps Association.

Preschool:

Mooredale Preschool provides high-quality educational programs for children 18 months to five years of age in a provincially licensed facility. The Preschool offers Toddler, Nursery School, Pre-K, Junior & Senior Kindergarten, and after-school programs. These provide a creative and exciting environment where children can experience a comprehensive range of activities to encourage their development intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically. Also offered is Summer Fun, a day camp during the summer months for children ages 2.5 years to 3 yrs 11 months of age.

Summer Aquatics:

The 25-metre heated outdoor pool provides a safe and family-oriented environment for up to 2,000 members. Open daily from Victoria Day weekend to Labour Day, the Pool Club offers a wide range of family friendly options, from recreational swimming, adult lane swimming, to a variety of learn to swim and lifesaving instruction classes. The pool is supervised by an experienced team of fully accredited lifeguards. It is a special oasis in the heart of mid-town Toronto.

Sports & Recreation:

Mooredale’s sports programs are designed to help children and youth stay active, build confidence, and develop skills in a supportive, community-centred environment.

Whether participants are trying a sport for the first time or looking to continue developing their abilities, their programs balance structured instruction with fun, teamwork, and sportsmanship. A range of seasonal and year-round sports are offered including baseball, basketball, flag football, soccer (both house league and RDP), plus hockey and skating. All are led by experienced coaches who prioritize safety, skill development, and enjoyment.

Mayfair:

Mayfair, held the 2nd weekend in May, is a long-standing community celebration that brings neighbours together while giving back in meaningful ways. Alongside rides, food, entertainment, and family activities, Mayfair focuses on strengthening community connections, supporting Second Harvest through a friendly Rosedale vs. Moore Park food drive. From rides, BBQ, and live entertainment on Friday night to the Saturday parade, bingo, midway games, and kids’ activities, Mayfair is an important fundraiser for Mooredale and a long-standing neighbourhood friend-raiser.

Seasonal Programs:

Mooredale offers a wide range of programs for all ages rooted in physical literacy, creativity, and community connection. Whether you’re exploring programs for toddlers, school-age children, teens, adults, or family experiences, their goal is to provide inclusive, engaging opportunities that support growth at every stage.

Their most popular programs cater to preschool and after-school aged children, including movement, STEM, French, music instruction & theatre, and more.

Mooredale Concerts:

Mooredale Concerts presents the high calibre Concert Series and the family series Music & Truffles, created for young people ages 6-11 at a nearby public venue. They also operate the Youth Orchestras program at Mooredale with three strings-only orchestras – junior, intermediate, senior, attended by 130 players per season.

The Position

The Executive Director (ED) is responsible for the effective administration, financial stability and daily operation of Mooredale. Reporting to the Rosedale-Moore Park Association (RMPA) Board of Directors, the ED oversees an organization of 22 full-time (7 direct reports), 1 part-time, 70 contract and 90 seasonal staff with an annual budget of around $4M and an annual membership of approximately 4,100. Revenue is generated from Mooredale’s various activities and programs.

Our successful candidate will be a highly visible and relational leader. They will play a pivotal leadership role in the development of sustainable programs, approving and monitoring operating and capital budgets, supervising the staff and activities of the organization while setting and maintaining professional standards. Our candidate will have operational and change management experience, preferably in a small business setting, and will have been accountable to an organizations’ P&L. They will be a self-starter with proven abilities to initiate and manage projects to successful completion.

Key Accountabilities

Executive Management

Formulate and recommend short and long-range plans for the development, growth and expansion of Mooredale's functions and activities
Ensure that administrative functions and facilities are provided to support the clubs and programs meeting seasonal deadlines, within budget and observing all safety and applicable industry standards
Direct and oversee the implementation of approved programs; ensure Mooredale’s policies are understood and applied by all staff, ascertaining policy clarification or interpretation from the Board executive committee where required
Ensure staff are delegated adequate authority to carry out their responsibilities and objectives, efficiently and effectively
Develop, maintain, and nurture external relationships that are appropriate, valuable, and beneficial for Mooredale’s reputation, promotion and mutual support. These include City of Toronto, local community associations, program & sports authorities, provincial/federal regulatory bodies, preschool and other key child educational entities, professional advisors with legal, media, accounting, governance, human resources expertise, and the community at large
Advise the Board regularly as to the state and conduct of Mooredale Community Centre affairs, the results of its operations and, as needed, of significant internal and external matters affecting operations, reputation or other matters that would normally be of concern to the Board
Formulate and recommend to the Board changes in operating conditions deemed necessary; develop and implement an effective plan of operation as approved by the Executive Committee
Ensure all assets of RMPA/Mooredale Community Centre are adequately safeguarded and maintained and that these assets are operated in an economical and financially prudent manner
Authorize the retention of outside services or agencies, within budgeted limits

Governance

Oversee and implement policy decisions and directives made by the Board, committees and/or clubs as required
Participate in Board meetings (quarterly plus one AGM), apprising members of Mooredale activities and areas of concern related to their portfolios
Act as Corporate Secretary recording and preparing minutes of Board meetings
Oversee preparation for the Annual General Meeting (AGM)
Ensure that Mooredale operates following the bylaws of the Association
Ensure that required government/industry and external association reports are submitted for RMPA

Human Resources

Hire and supervise staff; develop work scheduling plans with staff to assign tasks and achieve effective results; establish overall budget for other department staff and ensure that appropriate performance reviews are in place
Ensure required certification(s) are in place for all positions falling under government regulations
Establish duties and responsibilities of positions under the Executive Director's direct supervision via written position descriptions, providing effective direction and guidance
Periodically review the conditions of work, employee benefits and wage and salary administration programs applicable to Mooredale’s total staff complement (FTE, part-time, seasonal, contractual, and volunteers) and make recommendations to the Executive Committee of such changes as deemed appropriate
Recommend to the executive committee the creation of new positions or changes to existing positions of Mooredale’s complement
Foster a team environment where individuals are challenged and given appropriate responsibilities to ensure the most effective use of human resources and to create a rewarding environment for all Mooredale staff

Finance

Monitor the day-to-day financial operations
Prepare and present the detailed annual budget and capital expenditures budgets in conjunction with the accountant, for executive committee review and Board approval
Oversee preparation and review of RMPA quarterly financial statements. Analyse results and provide commentary to the Board as required
Ensure that required remittances, payables and receivables are current and collectible; review/clear program credits outstanding annually
Work with the Treasurer/Mooredale accountant to facilitate the annual external audit, directing the operational requirements and reviewing prepared materials/reports. Where required, act upon the recommendations of the auditors and to review these after each annual audit with the Treasurer

Marketing and Communications

In conjunction with the Directors’ of Mooredale programs/clubs, responsible for local marketing and communications activities including planning, prioritizing and coordination of key messages and value proposition via website, newsletters, social media feeds, and any other external channels that befit greater awareness of Mooredale’s capabilities and offers
Ensure that appropriate marketing and communication strategies and plans are in place to meet organizational objectives; formulate and develop strategic and tactical marketing plans that support Mooredale’s brand and its unique selling position
Oversee development of collateral materials, both paper-based and electronic, that support Mooredale programs/clubs and services marketed to members, non-members, and prospects
Regularly scan the market and industry sectors for trends and issues critical to the RMPA and Mooredale Community Centre agenda; anticipate risks and identify opportunities in external and community environments
On a select basis, oversee, conduct and/or commission relevant market research programs to advance RMPA’s knowledge and facilitate informed decision-making on services, programs, awareness, policy development, etc.

Property

Establish capital repairs and improvement priorities, coordinate quotations and supervise repairs/improvements to be done by outside contractors
Liaise with municipal departments, as necessary, to affect capital repairs as per the lease agreement, or access programs or incentives offered
Ensure the entire property is adequately protected against hazards, theft, fire, and any other potential loss situations; review security/fire/insurance policies/procedures at least annually
Negotiate contracts for nightly cleaning, snow removal, landscaping. and other special services
Supervise maintenance staff and monitor daily cleaning, repairs and any unusual maintenance incidents
Proactively inspect the property on a regular basis looking for potential safety hazards and areas where maintenance and repairs are or will be required

The Ideal Candidate

10-15 years increasing management experience; proven ability to operate a member-facing business of similar size and complexity considered an asset

Prior for-profit, not-for-profit, charitable organizational experience within a community environment, an asset
Proven ability to lead a team including coaching, development and delegation, and can work effectively with multiple stakeholders, including a board of directors, volunteers, various contractors, and municipal officials/departments, demonstrating a commitment to providing a consistently elevated level of dialogue and diplomacy
Strong business acumen with a firm understanding of budgeting, finance and experience with achieving top line revenue targets and positive supplier relationship management
Solid understanding of enterprise-wide technologies and platform as well as familiarity with digital marketing techniques, payment platforms/systems, membership/association related databases and operating systems, financial software, social media capabilities, security/alarm systems, and any other relevant emerging technologies
High level of oral and written communications, as well as interpersonal skills with a broad range of individuals and organizations, including Board members, Mooredale members, volunteers, professional colleagues, and subordinates
Solid understanding of programming specifically relatable to Mooredale’s broad range of activities
Strategic planning experience: capable of establishing direction for the organization and pursue goals and objectives in consultation with the senior leadership team and the Board
