Lawyers for Good Government (L4GG) is a nationally recognized non-profit organization committed to policy, advocacy and litigation in service of civil and human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. Our core programmatic issue areas include 1) gender justice and health equity, including reproductive justice and LGBTQ+ rights; 2) immigrants rights (Project Corazon); and 3) climate change and environmental justice. L4GG utilizes both in-house expert staff and strategic coordination of its large-scale pro bono network to ensure that all levels of government - national, state, and local - protect civil and human rights and provide equal justice under the law. We were founded in November 2016 in response to anticipated threats to human rights and the rule of law, and since then, have brought together more than 125,000 lawyers and concerned community members to fight for human rights and equal justice. We believe that lawyers and the legal profession play a unique and critical role in creating, improving, and enforcing systems of true equality.

L4GG's Gender Justice & Health Equity team now seeks a full-time Staff Attorney, Gender Justice & Health Equity to expand its scope and impact. As indicated above, this position will involve a combination of policy, advocacy, and litigation-related skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis and prepare reports, issue briefs, policy analyses, memoranda, and advocacy materials involving relevant issue areas including reproductive rights and justice, transgender rights, LGBTQ+ rights, bodily autonomy and health equity generally;
Engage in legislative analysis, drafting, and advocacy in coalition with grassroots and issue-area expert partners;
Work collaboratively with fellow team members and external partners to support policy drafting, analysis, and advocacy at the state and federal levels;
Coordinate with our Pro Bono Litigation Corps (PBLC) to identify cases with high-impact potential and assist in litigation through legal research, drafting briefs and other filings, and informing litigation strategy;
Coordinate with L4GG’s pro bono initiatives team to manage, mentor, and support pro bono attorneys and law students in projects related to health equity;
Coordinate and strategize with L4GG’s communications team to amplify our the reach and impact of our work;
Develop a deep understanding of the gender justice and health equity policy landscape, and serve as an in-house expert on emerging policy and litigation trends and potential threats;
Participate in internal and external meetings with fellow L4GG staff and coalition partners;
Present webinars, trainings, and CLE’s on relevant issue areas independently and in coordination with internal staff and external partners; and
Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active license to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
Access to a quiet workspace with high-speed internet and the ability to take calls and video meetings during working hours while protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all participants and information shared during the meetings.
3-5 years of post-law school progressive legal experience in policy or litigation, preferably within a mission-driven nonprofit context and/or in roles involving access to healthcare, reproductive rights, gender justice, or civil rights.
Working knowledge of basic issues involved in gender justice & health equity work;
Demonstrated commitment to our organization’s mission and a desire to fight for bodily autonomy, justice, and equity for all.
Excellent work ethic, judgment, research, writing, and communication skills.
Excellent analytical, research, writing, oral communication, and interpersonal skills;
Ability to operate with integrity, diplomacy, humility, and courage;
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fully remote environment;
Flexibility in adapting to the needs of a fast-paced and growing national organization, particularly as we face and respond to evolving threats to civil rights and individual liberties.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience supporting and mentoring pro bono attorneys;
Experience working with legislators or familiarity with the state and federal legislative processes;
Comfortable coordinating between programmatic, communications, and development teams in order to maximize impact;
Lived experience or community connection relevant to L4GG’s mission and issue areas;
Experience with any or all of the following digital tools: Google Suite, Zoom, Slack, Airtable, and/or Asana.
