Job Summary: The Director of Alumni Engagement and Donor Relations is a key leadership position within the Advancement Office, responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive alumni engagement and donor relations strategies. This role aims to foster lasting relationships with alumni, donors, and friends of the university to support SWU's mission and strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Alumni Engagement:
- Develop and execute a strategic plan for alumni engagement that includes events, communications, and volunteer opportunities.
- Oversee the planning and execution of alumni events, including reunions, homecoming, regional gatherings, and virtual events.
- Manage alumni communication channels, including newsletters, social media, and the alumni website.
- Cultivate relationships with alumni to encourage their continued involvement and support of the university.
- Establish and maintain an active Alumni Association and work closely with its leadership.
Donor Relations:- Develop and implement a comprehensive donor relations program, including stewardship, recognition, and engagement activities.
- Ensure timely and meaningful acknowledgment of all gifts, and create personalized stewardship plans for major donors, working in collaboration with the Advancement Operations and Donor Care Specialist.
- Plan and execute donor recognition events and programs.
- Maintain accurate records of donor interactions and ensure proper documentation in the university's CRM system.
Collaboration and Leadership:- Work closely with the Vice President for Advancement to align alumni and donor engagement strategies with the university's overall fundraising goals.
- Collaborate with academic departments, athletics, and other university units to support alumni and donor engagement initiatives.
- Represent SWU at external events and meetings to enhance the university's visibility and build relationships with key stakeholders.
Analysis and Reporting:- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of alumni and donor engagement programs, using data to inform strategic decisions.
- Prepare regular reports on alumni and donor engagement activities and outcomes for the Vice President for Advancement and other stakeholders.
- Stay current with best practices and trends in alumni engagement and donor relations and incorporate relevant innovations into SWU's programs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in alumni relations, donor relations, or a related field, preferably in a higher education or non-profit environment.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful engagement and stewardship programs.
- Strong understanding of fundraising principles and practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Commitment to the mission and values of Southern Wesleyan University and the Wesleyan Church.
- Proficiency in using CRM systems and other relevant technology.
