Job Description:
The Associate Director of Annual Giving/Senior Development Officer is responsible for procuring annual, restricted, and deferred gifts to the College in accordance with the department's goals. The associate director will develop and lead a multi-faceted leadership giving and development program for the Red & Black Society and the Parent Council. This role serves as a member of the major gifts team with emphasis on securing gifts and pledges primarily in the $1,000 - $1 million range. This position is responsible for procuring annual, restricted and deferred gifts to the College in accordance with the department's goals.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Direct the on-going development of the Parent Council including recruiting and managing the Parent Council- its campaigns, meetings, and other development-related parent programs.
- Develop and lead a comprehensive communication, marketing, leadership giving strategy for the Red & Black Society. Specific focus on developing leadership alumni engagement, philanthropic support, and stewardship. Coordinate with staff to include branding assets, promotion, website development, and sophisticated outreach utilizing analysis, technology, and traditional methods.
- Help the Rhodes Annual Fund reach participation and dollar goals, as well as the overall advancement of Rhodes development and constituent engagement efforts.
- Cultivate prospects, solicit Annual Fund gifts, and provide stewardship. Create strategies to increase annual gifts primarily in the range of $2,500 - $9,999. Extensive travel at times to make face to face visits. Occasional weekend and evening work required.
- Cultivate prospects, solicit major and deferred gifts and leadership annual gifts, and provide stewardship for portfolio of donors. This requires intense focus on one-on-one visits with assigned prospects and donors, developing strategy, designing proposals and closing gifts. Extensive travel at times to make the visits is required, as well as occasional night/weekend availability.
- Serve on the One Day Challenge leadership teams for both the Athletic and Annual Fund challenges.
- Meets annual donor visit, solicitation, proposals delivered and closed gift goals.
- Maintains favorable relationships with a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects and works with them to make philanthropic investments at Rhodes.
- Work with members of the division staff to broaden the base of gift prospects and to develop appropriate programs to meet the College's highest funding priorities.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Four years of development experience required, preferably at an educational institution or demonstrated knowledge of fundraising, volunteer management, and/or marketing.
- This position requires a valid driver's license, a good driving record, and must be insurable by the College's insurance carrier.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities, to solve problems and demonstrate leadership skills is required.
- Ability to relate well to the public is a must.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office required.
