Virginia Union University (VUU) is seeking an experienced and dynamic Director of Major Gifts to lead fundraising efforts and cultivate relationships with high-impact donors. This role will be responsible for identifying, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support the university's strategic priorities, scholarships, and capital projects. The Director of Major Gifts will play a key role in advancing VUU's mission by securing philanthropic investments that drive institutional growth and student success.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify, cultivate, and solicit a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, alumni, corporations, and foundations to generate substantial financial support.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with donors, ensuring personalized engagement and stewardship.
- Collaborate with university leadership, faculty, and staff to align fundraising efforts with institutional priorities.
- Establish annual fundraising goals and track progress toward major gift targets.
- Develop tailored proposals and presentations for prospective donors, effectively articulating VUU's vision and funding opportunities.
- Utilize data analytics and donor research to identify new prospects and maximize giving potential.
- Plan and execute exclusive donor events, recognition programs, and VIP experiences to deepen donor engagement.
- Oversee the stewardship process, ensuring major donors receive timely acknowledgments, impact reports, and meaningful interactions.
- Work closely with the President, Board of Trustees, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, and other senior leaders to support fundraising initiatives.
- Partner with marketing and communications teams to develop compelling donor messaging and campaign materials.
- Train and mentor staff and volunteers in best practices for major gift fundraising and donor relations.
Education
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred in Business, Nonprofit Management, Communications, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in major gift fundraising, development, or advancement within higher education or a nonprofit setting.
- Proficiency in fundraising software (Raiser's Edge, Salesforce, or similar CRM systems) and donor prospect research tools.
- Must be able to lift 10 pounds.
