Aspen Leadership Group is proud to partner with the National Coast Guard Museum Association in the search for a Director of Leadership and Major Gifts.
Reporting to the President of the National Coast Guard Museum Association, the Director of Leadership and Major Gifts will lead the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of all leadership and major gift prospects and donors, with a focus on the delivery of annual fundraising goals, development of planned giving strategy, and will conceptualize and launch a new fundraising campaign to support programming for the opening of the National Coast Guard Museum in 2026. The Director will have ownership for the delivery of annual fundraising goals relating to major gifts of $50,000 and above as well as signature leadership gifts of $1 million+ from individuals, corporations, and foundations. The Director will share responsibility for the design and implementation of a sustainable post-opening program for the National Coast Guard Museum and will have the unique opportunity to participate in the creation of a lasting tribute worthy of the men and women of the Coast Guard. This is a remote position. The Director of Leadership and Major Gifts should be based within the New York to Boston corridor. Extensive travel to work with Board of Directors members, Capital Campaign Committee members, leadership, and fundraising staff is required for this position.
The National Coast Guard Museum Association (NCGMA) understands the value of museums and the purpose they serve in society. Its mission is to support the creation, sustainability, and growth of the National Coast Guard Museum. NCGMA serves as a vital link between the museum and its commitment to preserving and honoring the rich maritime heritage and courageous contributions of the U.S. Coast Guard. As a non-profit, supporting organization, the National Coast Guard Museum Association provides essential support to foster public awareness and ensure the museum's continued growth — with the longer-term ambition of ranking among one of the Nation's most valued museums.
Opening in 2026, the National Coast Guard Museum will honor, engage, educate, and inspire. Located in historic downtown New London, Connecticut, the National Coast Guard Museum will bring Coast Guard history to life through inspiration and engagement. As one of the oldest military branches in the United States, founded in 1790, the Coast Guard has evolved into a nimble, maritime sea service with a unique identity, purpose, and tradition exemplified by its motto, Semper Paratus — Always Ready.
The National Coast Guard Museum will share this rich tradition with the public, celebrating the Service's members and their accomplishments of the past, present, and future. The museum will engage and educate through robust exhibits, carefully curated artifacts, as well as interactive and immersive experiences. Visitors will be able to enjoy educational programs — both in person and online through virtual exhibits. Through thematic museum exhibits, immersive experiences, and compelling storytelling, the National Coast Guard Museum will honor and celebrate the impact of the U.S. Coast Guard workforce. The museum will enable visitors of all ages to understand and embrace the U.S. Coast Guard's contributions to security, democracy, and prosperity of the United States — and beyond. The National Coast Guard Museum values its role in educating future generations.
A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least five years of experience in a similar role within a 501(c)(3) or non-profit organization is preferred for this position. The National Coast Guard Museum Association will consider candidates with a broad range of backgrounds. If you are excited about this role and feel that you can contribute to NCGMA, but your experience does not exactly align with every qualification listed above, we encourage you to apply. All applications must be accompanied by a cover letter and résumé. Cover letters should be responsive to the mission of the National Coast Guard Museum Association as well as the responsibilities and qualifications stated in the prospectus.
The salary range for this position is $160,000 to $180,000 annually.
The National Coast Guard Museum is committed to the inclusion of all qualified candidates. If you require reasonable accommodation in completing this application, interviewing, or participating in the selection process, please contact Kim Farr at kimfarr@aspenleadershipgroup.com.
