Institutional Advancement (IA) – Advancement Graduate Assistant
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience and valuable experiential learning in the fields of higher education and development. This role is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of nonprofit management within a dynamic and fast-paced office environment. The Advancement Graduate Assistant can expect to collaborate with and gain experience in areas related to alumni engagement, communication, solicitation, donor relations/stewardship, donor database management, and special events planning.
The Advancement Graduate Assistant will report directly to The Director of Annual Giving and Engagement and will work closely with all Institutional Advancement staff. The Graduate Assistant can expect to engage with other key staff members across campus, including (but not limited to) career services, academics, student affairs, athletics, marketing, public relations, and finance.
Dates, Hours & Expectations
This position is an academic year (July – June), part-time assistantship. The graduate assistant is expected to work an average of 20 hours per week scheduled between the hours of 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday, as well as some events taking place outside of these hours. Working hours may be flexible, as needed. The Graduate Assistant should have a driver’s license and a reliable form of transportation, as some local travel may be expected.
Primary Responsibilities
Engagement and Events: 50%
- Work with the Director of Annual Giving and Engagement to develop and implement campus engagement programs for students and alumni.
- Assist with the design and implementation of innovative online engagement programs such as a faculty and/or alumni speaker series, alumni career networking, and collaborating for IA social media platforms.
- Represent the Office of Institutional Advancement at select campus events.
- Assist in planning and execution of Institutional Advancement events, including Alumni Reunion, Athletics Hall of Fame, and other alumni and friends-themed gatherings.
Annual Giving: 35%
- Collaborate with the Director of Annual Giving and Engagement to develop compelling storytelling messaging and solicitation vehicles (mail, email, phone/texting, social media, digital).
- Assist development staff with donor solicitation efforts, including potential opportunities such as video, phone, or in-person solicitations.
- Contribute to the development, design, implementation, and evaluation of crowdfunding campaigns such as AIC Gives, the campus-wide Giving Day, Giving Tuesday, and other College priorities.
- Assist with the comprehensive AIC Giving Day – AIC Gives.
Donor Relations/Stewardship: 10%
- Assist with the day-to-day administration of the stewardship plan this includes all forms of donor communication - such as phone calls, written and electronic correspondence
Raiser’s Edge Data Entry 5%
- Update constituent records with new biographical data (i.e., new phone numbers, email addresses, mailing addresses).
- Make notes and actions on constituents’ records.
