POSITION SUMMARY
The Accounting Associate will support the Finance department by assisting with the processing of accounts payable transactions, business expense reports, monthly reconciliations, and assisting with other elements of general ledger accounting. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively.
The position reports to the Senior Director, Finance and is an Arlington, VA based, flexible hybrid working role. There is no weekly in-office requirement, however the ability to visit the office as needed is required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Process and verify vendor invoices, ensuring they are accurate and comply with organizational policies.
- Prepare and process accounts payable checks, ACH payments, and credit card transactions.
- Process and maintain Accounts Receivable ledger.
- Process cash receipts transactions.
- Post financial transactions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and expenses.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies or outstanding issues in a timely manner.
- Reconcile bank and credit card statements and resolve any discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all accounts payable transactions and prepare annual 1099 filing.
- Assist with the preparation of ad hoc and/or monthly reports and provide support during annual audits.
- Work closely with internal departments to ensure proper coding and approval of invoices.
- Answer inquiries from vendors and staff regarding payment status and other accounts payable-related questions.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding financial and personal information.
- Provide support to the finance department and other staff with financial information and assist with other accounting and administrative tasks as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- 2 + years’ experience in accounts payable, bookkeeping, or a related field or a degree in accounting or finance required.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
- Experience with accounting software required; experience with Sage Intacct preferred
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-service oriented attitude and able to maintain confidentiality in handling financial information.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Must be able to manage time effectively and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
