Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Advancement, the Director of Planned Giving is responsible for helping Stonehill College achieve its fundraising goals through the implementation of a robust planned giving program. The Director's role will be focused on increasing the number of documented estate gifts to the college through enhanced marketing efforts, personal outreach, and thoughtful conversations with alumni and friends of the college about charitable gifts through their estate plans. The Director of Planned Giving will have access to work collaboratively with the entire Advancement Division, Senior Leadership, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders at the College.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- The Director of Planned Giving will identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 100-125 high-potential prospects and donors who can make multi-year commitments of $25,000 and above and/or who have been identified as having significant planned giving potential.
- The Director of Planned Giving will be a proven fundraiser with direct experience in planned giving. The position requires a strong relationship builder with an entrepreneurial approach and a self-motivated drive for success.
- The Director will provide oversight of the planned giving program at Stonehill, staying up to date with relevant tax laws, and gift planning concepts, and implementing relevant, creative, compelling, and timely marketing ideas that will increase gift planning conversations and estate gifts to the College.
- Convey a strong and consistent message about Stonehill College's mission, priorities, and plans, as well as the importance of legacy gifts to the college, using written and oral communication.
- Successfully match donors' philanthropic interests with Stonehill College's needs through thoughtful engagement opportunities, meaningful conversations, and effective listening.
- Involve appropriate volunteers and staff members in the cultivation and solicitation process as needed.
- Work with members of the Advancement Division team to plan and implement unique cultivation touchpoints and inspiring events designed to instill pride and generosity in Stonehill College alumni, parents, and friends.
- Conduct 8-10 meaningful visits per month for qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Prepare administrative and management reports including contact and strategy reports for each prospect.
- Develop personal engagement plans, and gift solicitation proposals, and provide proper stewardship after a gift is made.
- Perform other duties as requested by the Assistant Vice President for Advancement.
Education and/or Experience
A bachelor's degree and three to five years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Candidates must have excellent verbal, communication, relationship-building, and entrepreneurial skills. Excellent listening skills are imperative. Experience in the area of planned gifts and major gifts in higher education fundraising is preferred. This position requires the ability to travel, therefore, a valid driver's license, insurance, and reliable transportation are required.
