Job Description:
Fulfills the mission of Norwich University by providing strategic leadership for Norwich's alumni engagement efforts. The Associate Vice President of Alumni Relations (AVP) is key to the success and advancement of the Development & Alumni Relations (DAR) department, serving on the leadership team, managing a staff of event and relationship professionals, collaborating with stakeholders, and developing programs that broaden and deepen alumni engagement and investment.
Norwich University's Office of Alumni Relations delivers a comprehensive program of outreach, events and activities that connect constituents with each other and inspires investment in the future of Norwich.

Essential Functions
- Provides oversight and direction to the alumni relations team through a comprehensive engagement strategy for Corps, civilian and online alumni and future alumni (students).
- Plans and implements diverse and meaningful alumni engagement opportunities that promote networking and foster connections between alumni through on-campus programming (Homecoming, class reunions), regional/affinity events and online engagement.
- Oversees customer-centric communication strategies that keep alumni informed about Norwich news, events, and opportunities for engagement, showcase our alumni/student/faculty community and employ best practices.
- Recruits, trains, and manages alumni volunteers to support various events, programs and initiatives with specific oversight of the NU Alumni Association Board.
- Identifies alumni for volunteer and philanthropic support, working closely with the development team.
- Supports the stewardship of volunteers and donors, ensuring they are recognized and appreciated for their contributions.
- Develops, leads, mentors, and motivates a high-performing team of professionals, provide vision and encourage innovation, and empower staff by building confidence, promoting diversity of thought and celebrating achievements.
- Oversees the budget for the alumni relations office, ensuring efficient and effective resource allocation.
- Works closely with DAR senior leadership, development staff, and both internal and external stakeholders to achieve advancement goals.

- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or private information.
- Communicates with employees, students, and others in a respectful and clear manner.
- Serves on University committees, councils, workgroups, or other designated bodies as assigned.
- Achieves, maintains proficiency in, and utilizes computers, telephones, and other job-related equipment, including related systems and software.

- Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- 10 years of leadership experience in event production, team supervision, volunteer management in higher education or other non-profit/business.
- Knowledge of Norwich University's history, environment, and academic culture preferred.
- Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, ability to collaborate and influence at a high level and foster relationships with people of diverse interests including alumni, faculty, staff, students and parents.
- Sound judgement and attention to detail; the ability to think strategically and act decisively.
- Possess a strong work ethic, self-confidence and self-motivated style that can inspire, engage, and positively impact individuals and groups.
- Experience in personnel management/leading successful teams
- Track record of exceptional customer service
- Ability to work at a fast pace with unscheduled interruptions
- Ability to balance competing demands in deadline-driven environment
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook). Experience with Raisers Edge or similar software a plus.
- Able to sit, squat, reach, push, pull, and manipulate related equipment; lift 25 pounds; travel outdoors to various parts of the campus
- Work some evening or weekend hours
- Travel as needed (public or private transportation)

- Low level of exposure to noise, dust, fumes, vibrations, and temperature changes.
