The Development Officer supports the strategic fundraising efforts of the university by designing, implementing, evaluating and refining activities, with an emphasis on major gifts exceeding $100,000. The Development Officer targets mid-major level donors for gifts, develops Washington C. DePauw lifetime level donors, and identifies donors ready for major gift development. Fosters collaborative relationships with development colleagues and university constituents by coordinating joint solicitation efforts, and supporting internal processes and procedures.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards major gift donors and prospects including individuals, corporations, and/or foundations, through visits and other forms of direct personal contact in accordance with performance targets set in development.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative working relationships with development colleagues and other constituents to maximize the unit's total gift revenue, plan solicitation strategies, and leverage joint solicitation efforts.
- Assists in short- and long-range strategic planning activities to create and implement fund-raising goals and objectives.
- Makes effective use of the university's prospect management database and other institutional resources to ensure appropriate management of donors, prospects, alumni, and volunteers in coordination with university objectives.
- Conducts research to identify prospects, with an emphasis on major gifts exceeding $100,000, and creates strategies to match prospects' interests to the priorities of the unit and the University.
- Plans and conducts programs and activities designed to increase the visibility of the university to internal and external constituencies.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or university) required.
Experience: Preferred candidates will have a minimum of three years of progressive development or related experience, with experience in managing a portfolio.
Communication/Language: Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Computer Skills: Knowledge of database management systems, CRM, and Microsoft Office products, including Excel. Ability and desire to frequently learn new products related to the role is required.
Certificates & Licenses: CFRE desirable
Other Requirements
- A strong understanding of the mission of liberal arts institutions.
- Travel from campus, as needed, to conduct solicitations, or to recruit volunteer leaders for assigned programs.
- Normal work responsibilities include time outside of normal office hours, some evenings and weekends.
