Associate Director of Development, Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions The associatedirector of development for The Watts College of Public Service and Community Solutions is a professional who will workcollaboratively with the ASU Foundation for A New American University (ASUF) and with leadership, faculty, and staff within the college.Watts College is home to ASU's most diverse student body, with the highest percentages of minority, transfer, and working students-and thelargest community of first-generation college students. Watts College's degree programs cover the spectrum of public service, includingpublic policy, social work, criminology and criminal justice, nonprofit leadership, emergency management, community development, and more.We are preparing a workforce to take on complex issues. At the same time, our students are making a difference today. Through service-basedlearning, they put ideas into action.
The principal activity of this professional development officer is to identify, cultivate, andsolicit individual and organizational funders in response to the needs of the college's faculty and center directors. The associatedirector's effectiveness will be evaluated on the ability to achieve proposal goals and contact metrics consistent with the programs andprospects assigned. The associate director reports to the Sr. director of development in The Watts College of Public Service and CommunitySolutions.
What you'll do:
- Develops and executes strategic fundraising and engagement efforts on behalf ofassigned area(s) by designing, implementing, evaluating, and refining development activities to drive donor retention, reactivation,acquisition, and pipeline growth
- Depending on area(s) of assignment, actively engages donors, alumni, faculty, staff, andstudents to proactively build and manage a personal major gift/prospect portfolio with a focus on securing gifts at or above the $50,000level in accordance with performance metrics
- Collaborates with development team, unit leaders and academic leaders to assistand direct the implementation and coordination of special fundraising and engagement opportunities by identifying, cultivating, andsoliciting annual, major, and planned gifts in cooperation with the objectives and strategies of ASUF and the University DevelopmentOffice
- Guided by the direction and scope of a prospect's interest, collaborates with various faculty, institute/centerdirectors, and unit-based and foundation-based fundraisers to leverage the maximum philanthropic potential of aprospect
- Develops and submits written proposals, budgets, and other collateral materials as needed for securing significant($25,000+) philanthropic investments
- Depending on area(s) of assignment, collaborates with and coordinates the efforts ofvarious ASU offices and functions to advance prospect and donor strategies (i.e., alumni engagement, annual giving, corporate and foundationrelations, development, donor relations, estate and gift planning, financial services, research and prospectmanagement)
- Proactively manages a personal major gift/prospect portfolio ($50,000+), prospects, develops and executesstrategic prospect strategies leading to solicitation and investment based on the opportunities of each specialassignment
- Uses the ASUF prospect management and tracking system (i.e., Salesforce) to record and coordinate contacts andproposals
- Assumes responsibility for core fundraising metrics including face-to-face visits with prospects, identification ofnew prospects, growth in cumulative giving from the prospect portfolio, major gift proposals submitted, dollarsraised
- Ensures proper stewardship and recognition of donors in portfolio
- Participates, as a member of the ASUFdevelopment team and serve as a resource to development colleagues regarding fundraising opportunities
- Sustains strongworking relationships with deans, chairs, directors, and faculty members of assigned unit(s)
What you'll need:
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with academic leadership, faculty, prospects, donors,and/or volunteers in a wide range of roles
- Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepareeffective, accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives
- Database managementskills
- Ability to lead projects to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments
- Abilityto exercise good judgment, to demonstrate an understanding of ethics related to development activities, and to use discretion ininteractions with donors, prospects, volunteers, and others
- Ability to foster effective working relationships within a teamenvironment
- Community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diversecommunity
- Knowledge of fundraising techniques including proposal development, prospect identification, program planning, fundsolicitation, database management, donor tracking, and social networking and marketing tools
- Highly developed verbal andwritten communication skills and the ability to present effectively to small and large groups
- Ability to maintain a highdegree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Foundation and University business and confidential prospectinformation
- Ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures andbackgrounds
- Ability to represent the institution well and possess an advocate's belief in the vision of ASU as the NewAmerican University
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and comfortable working in donor/prospect computer databasesystems
Relevant qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or currently enrolled inbachelor's degree program
- Four (4) years of years of successful professional development and/or fundraisingexperience
- Demonstrated ability in securing major grants and gifts from individuals, corporations, foundations, and otherprivate funding sources
- Demonstrated organizational skills and experience in managing events and other complex activities insupport of development objectives
Preferred education and experience:
- Advanceddegree
- Four (4) years of successful professional development and/or fundraising experience preferably in higher education orcollege athletics for applicable roles
- Experience working in Salesforce and Workday
