Britannia Community Services BCSC (BCSC) is at a pivotal moment in its story. Approaching its 50th anniversary in 2026, BCSC is building on a proud legacy of grassroots community action while setting a new course for the future through its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan. At the heart of Grandview-Woodland, BCSC is more than a community centre: it is a vibrant, multi-partner gathering place where recreation, social connection, culture, learning, and community care come together every day.

As the organization looks ahead, its priorities are ambitious and community-driven. BCSC is focused on creating, enabling, and populating more welcoming and safe environments, advancing reconciliation and decolonization, strengthening relationships with partners, growing organizational capacity, investing in youth and seniors, and reinforcing accountability and financial sustainability. At the same time, the organization is helping shape the long-term renewal and redevelopment of the full Britannia 17.04-acre site, in partnership with public sector owners.

As the new Executive Director, engaged by and responsible to the Board of Directors, you will bring collaborative leadership and deep relationship-building strengths to advance the strategic direction crucial to BCSC’s future.

Key ED priorities will include:

Leading BCSC’s commitment to reconciliation and decolonization through intentional relationship-building with urban Indigenous communities and Host Nations
Strengthening and promoting the value of partnerships with the City of Vancouver, Vancouver School Board, Vancouver Park Board, and other key collaborators to ensure Britannia’s voice—and the voice of the community it serves—is clearly heard in planning and renewal processes
Fostering a healthy, productive, and well-supported staff team through strong people leadership and organizational change management
Working in close partnership with the governance-oriented Board to assure clear roles and accountability, effective strategic oversight, and long-range financial sustainability, through a period of organizational change.

General Responsibilities

The Executive Director is responsible for the administration of the BCSC in all its activities and departments subject to the policies of the Board of Directors and the Constitution and By-Laws of the Society.

Government & Partner Relations

Maintain relations, advocate, and lead communications with civic, provincial and federal governments, regarding BCSC’s budget, operations, and services.
Negotiate and lead joint planning with senior representatives of public and private agencies on programs and services delivered through BCSC, and to provide consultation and support to partner organizations, local Host Nations, and community groups to assist with their development.
Lead the coordination, integration, and project management of the planning and implementation of the Britannia renewal to ensure that the processes, resources, and negotiated operating agreements best suit local needs and interests and are in alignment with the BCSC vision, mission, and values.

Community Relations

Lead collaboration with agencies across Grandview-Woodland and Strathcona to strengthen coordination and integration of community services.
Position BCSC as a hub for social action, bringing people together to address local issues and advance community-driven solutions.

Operational & People Leadership

Lead, support, and hold accountable the management team in the effective delivery of BCSC operations, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and community needs.
Provide strong, visible leadership to all staff, fostering a respectful and inclusive organizational culture and psychologically safe workplace where employees feel supported to raise concerns, share ideas, and contribute to continuous improvement.
Lead overall human resource management, including union relationships, collective bargaining, and collaboration with the City of Vancouver as an employer in common.
Ensure full compliance with Board policies, legal requirements, and all operating agreements with funders and partners, with overall accountability for the effective administration of the Society.

Resource Development

Explore and develop sustainable revenue generation options and initiate and coordinate fundraising activities to meet BCSC strategic goals and to ensure financial stability.
Steward key funding partners and cultivate new sources of funding to meet the evolving service needs of the community and promote BCSC’s aims.

Governance and Board Liaison

Foster effective collaboration and communication with the Board.of Directors and serve as their advisor, consultant, and resource person.
Implement the Board’s goals and objectives, as stated in the BCSC strategic plan, and keep the Board informed through established mechanisms to monitor, report on, and address potential risks to strategic plan progress.

Candidate Qualifications

Knowledge, skills and experience

Degree in a relevant field, or equivalent lived experience in the areas of non-profit leadership and/or community or social development.
5+ years of leadership experience with a proven record of successfully leading and managing diverse teams across generations, including in a union environment with experience in collective bargaining.
Experience working with non-profit boards.
Demonstrated experience activating a strategic plan, developing operational plans, and aligning organizational goals with long-term vision.
Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organization.
Proven experience integrating commitments to reconciliation and decolonization into organizational strategy, culture, decision-making, and operations, with demonstrated ability to move from intention to sustained practice.
Experience in financial management and various non-profit revenue generation models including fee-for-service, grant writing, fundraising, and partnerships.
Familiarity with federal and provincial legislation applicable to charities and non-profits.
Multi-faceted project management experience, or the ability to lead multiple complex pieces of work in an organized and effective manner.

Work Conditions

This is a permanent full-time (37.5 hours per week) position with generous, employer-paid extended health and dental benefits, as well as enrolment in BC’s Municipal Pension Plan. Regular work hours includes evenings and weekends, when needed to accommodate work activities, events, presentations or representing the organization at public events.

The position has an approved salary maximum of $155,000, with an expected hiring range of $140,000 - $150,000, depending on experience. Britannia Community Services BCSC (BCSC) is located on the traditional and ancestral lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples in Vancouver, BC with the Executive Director working largely in-person at BCSC as per City of Vancouver policy, with occasional in-person activities in other locations in the City.
