Development Officer
St. Ambrose University at its Mount Mercy University campus is seeking a relationship-driven and results-oriented Development Officer to join our Development and Alumni team. This role is ideal for a motivated professional who is passionate about higher education and thrives on building meaningful connections that advance institutional mission and impact.
The Development Officer plays a vital role in cultivating and strengthening relationships with alumni and donors. Managing a portfolio of 100–150 prospects, this individual will lead efforts to secure leadership-level gifts in support of Mount Mercy University’s priorities, including unrestricted giving, scholarships, and campaign initiatives.
This position is based on campus in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with regional travel required for donor engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and manage a portfolio of 100–150 current and prospective donors through personalized, relationship-focused outreach
- Develop and execute strategic cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans to grow donor engagement and giving levels
- Conduct face-to-face visits, virtual meetings, and other personalized communications with donors
- Identify and engage new prospects in collaboration with advancement colleagues
- Partner closely with senior advancement leadership to align fundraising strategies and priorities
- Support and actively participate in key development events, including Day of Giving, Homecoming, and Alumni Weekend
- Maintain accurate donor records, perform data entry, and generate reports while ensuring data integrity
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Previous experience in fundraising, sales, relationship management, or a related field
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and integrity
