Advocates for Trans Equality (A4TE) fights for the legal and political rights of transgender people in America. Leveraging decades of experience on the frontlines of power, we shift government and society towards a future where we are no less than equal. Founded in 2024, A4TE was formed through a merger by two national trans advocacy organizations and is of, for, and by the trans community. Advocates for Trans Equality (501c4) and Advocates for Trans Equality Education Fund (501c3) focus its efforts on political and legal advocacy, public education, and community engagement. The A4TE team catalyzes progress from the inside out and will settle for nothing less than equality for trans people in America. Advocates for Trans Equality and A4TE Equality Education Fund is incorporated in Washington, DC with offices in D.C. and New York and employs more than 50 dedicated staff who share office space and work across the country.
Summary
The Digital Strategist works under the direction of the Strategic Communications Director to create, plan, and execute digital content and messaging across all digital channels and functions, including rapid response. This position plays an integral role in building and elevating A4TE’s footprint by solidifying the organization through strategic and consistent content and narrative execution. The Digital Strategist will help identify content gaps, while creating and managing digital content for the website, social media, and email. You will collaborate with our public education team on content creation and management, as well as strategy and implementation of campaigns. You will partner with key stakeholders across the organization to create a cohesive A4TE narrative around our programmatic work.
Key Responsibilities
Content Management
- Develop and implement content strategy for A4TE digital channels in collaboration with key stakeholders, including but not limited to websites, social media, and email outreach, that are designed for and align with the mission, values, strategic priorities, and key audiences (i.e., community members, policymakers, pro bono law firms, movement organizations, professional and expert associations, etc.) of the organization.
- Produce and publish regularly scheduled content for all digital channels that is curated to educate and engage target audiences.
- Collaborate with the Strategic Communications Director to ensure content is suited for target audiences and channels.
- With the director, identify, develop, and implement the long-term vision, goals, strategies, and tactics for the digital strategy.
- Participate in regular cross-function content planning meetings between departments to identify and optimize opportunities, maintain project deadlines, and content launch dates.
- Create narratives that resonate with diverse audiences; inspire through effective storytelling and written communications. Manage and prepare content toolkits for partners with assets and messaging for rapid response and other digital campaigns.
- Develop and manage editorial calendar across all functions and work with Strategic Communications Director to prioritize and plan monthly editorial themes and digital campaigns.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders across functions to produce requested content for our websites, email listserv and social media channels (currently we are active on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in alignment with digital strategy.
- Manage digital content best practices across teams and functions, partnering with key stakeholders and regions to ensure alignment and socialization.
- Identify vendors and contractors for digital projects and support vendor relations as project manager.
- Monitor and report on trends in digital and social media and make recommendations to update digital strategy accordingly. Other tasks as assigned.
Metrics & Reporting
- Define KPIs Collect, analyze, and report on metrics monthly for digital platforms including web, social media and email.
- Research and stay up to date on the latest developments in terms of content trends, and consumer and partner behavior.
Graphic Design
- Develop and design graphics with support from the Multimedia Specialist as needed, including social media and website.
- Collaborate with Multimedia Specialist to design resources and promotional materials. Maintain graphic design quality control that adheres to brand guidelines.
- Build and maintain A4TE’s digital assets, including building a library of materials, development of graphics, and management of stock imagery/footage
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Successful candidates will thrive in diverse environments and contribute to a positive and inclusive atmosphere. Skills and competencies include:
- Between 5-7 years of professional experience in a similar digital strategist role.
- Direct digital strategist experience should demonstrate work with growing digital audiences, creating impactful content, and measuring strategies to maximize engagement and educate audiences Demonstrable experience successfully digesting complex legal and policy materials and producing digital media content based on those materials for diverse audiences (preferably three years’ experience) Technical experience with EveryAction and other CRMs, Asana, social media management tools (ie Hootsuite, Sprout Social) MS Suite, Adobe Creative, Canva, and Photoshop. Graphic design experience (preferably one year of experience minimum) and basic understanding of graphic design principles
- Passionate about A4TE/A4TE Education Fund and its mission including federal and state advocacy, litigation impact, and public narrative work.
- Familiarity with current issues pertaining to the trans community, LGBTQI+ rights, gender justice, racial justice, civil rights, civil liberties, and nondiscrimination among others Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- Self-starter who can manage multiple projects at once and thrives in a fast-paced environment. Understanding of building and editing page templates and other digital components for websites.
- Possess strong and collaborative communication skills. Ability to motivate donors and other constituencies.
- Detailed knowledge of current online tools and marketing trends, including SEO.
- Ability to come up with creative ideas and solve problems on a tight deadline.
- Detail-oriented with ability to plan, organize, prioritize, track progress, and meet goals.
- Flexibility and willingness to learn new tools, technology, and resources
- . Ability to jump from task to task regularly and easily, prioritize, stay organized, and complete assignments under sometimes tough deadlines.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Significant experience in digital media content production and strategy development, for a nonprofit or political organization, with three or more years preferred.
- This includes:
- video editing (preferably one year of experience or basic training)
- managing a website in Drupal or WordPress (preferably one year of experience minimum)
- creating strategic plans & outlines (preferably three years’ experience minimum)

Salary & Benefits
Salary range is between $87,598.00 to $91,673.84 for 2025. The Digital Strategist is a full-time, exempt position and is a union eligible position. The position falls under the Specialist Salary Scale in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and is based upon years of required professional experience. Location
This position is remote but requires being located near major airport. Minimal travel may be required.
