Position Overview
The Communications Specialist will support the communications efforts of Suffer Out Loud including social media, website, newsletters, and other communication initiatives. This position will also support Suffer Out Loud outreach and fundraising efforts to increase community awareness and engagement.
This is a contract role offered at 10 hours per week for 16 weeks, with the possibility of extension.
Primary Responsibilities
- Manage online marketing and social media efforts, including creating and posting content to Suffer Out Loud’s Instagram & Facebook accounts based on current social media best practices and in alignment with organizational goals
- Complete website updates and maintenance (Squarespace)
- Create a social media management strategy that guides future social media activity in alignment with those performed as part of this role
Secondary Responsibilities, Performed As Needed
- Assist in managing other online marketing platforms such as Google Business
- Support staff in planning, implementing, and marketing fundraising and outreach events
- Represent organization in community initiatives and at events
- Assist in the creation and implementation of new marketing and outreach initiatives.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Commitment to our mission of serving anyone who needs help, including vulnerable and underserved populations
- Strong knowledge of Squarespace, website optimization, and SEO best practices
- Strong knowledge of effective social media marketing and engagement strategies
- Comfort and ability to post to social media (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn)
- Comfortable speaking to the public in both private and public settings
- Experience with Canva
- High attention to detail
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Follow through with responsibilities, meet deadlines, and effective prioritization of tasks
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to take complex problems or tasks and break down into manageable steps
- Excellent interpersonal skills and abilities
- Ability to learn computer software tools quickly and an already working knowledge of Google platforms, Monday.com, email, and Zoom
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Physical Demands and Workspace Requirements
- Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure
- Access to a computer and reliable internet
