William Paterson University employs approximately 1000 full time employees in the state who work in a variety of positions ranging from professors to administrative assistants and administrators, physical plant operations, campus police, athletics coaches, academic advisors, and more. Reporting to the AVP, Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy, the Senior Alumni Engagement & Philanthropy Specialist is responsible for leading strategic initiatives that enhance alumni relationships and philanthropic engagement. This role oversees key engagement metrics, strengthens alumni networks, and drives impactful programs that align with institutional goals. As a liaison to the Alumni Executive Council, campus, and community partners, the Specialist will develop and execute high-level engagement strategies to advance alumni connections and philanthropic contributions.
Major Duties and Responsibilities - Develops and implements initiatives to increase alumni participation in mentorship, volunteerism, and philanthropy.
- Designs and executes targeted engagement strategies that foster lifelong relationships between alumni and the university.
- Represents the Office of Alumni Engagement and Philanthropy at events, cultivating strong connections with alumni, students, and key stakeholders.
- Works collaboratively with university leadership and departments to align alumni engagement efforts with institutional priorities.
- Leads the development of high-impact engagement programs, including alumni affinity groups, leadership councils, and signature events.
- Oversees and mentor the Undergraduate Fellow and Graduate Assistant, managing hiring, training, and professional development.
- Acts as a strategic advisor and backup supervisor for part-time staff in the absence of the AVP or for major projects.
- Drives a culture of innovation in alumni programming by assessing trends, implementing best practices, and leveraging technology.
- Develops key performance indicators and measure the effectiveness of alumni engagement initiatives using data analytics.
- Collaborates with Institutional Advancement Data teams to generate and interpret engagement reports, informing strategic planning.
- Prepares clear and technically sound reports that offer insights, conclusions, and strategic recommendations to enhance alumni engagement.
- Assists the AVP in preparing high-level briefings and presentations for university leadership, including Presidential briefings.
- Serves as the primary administrative liaison for Alumni Executive Council meetings, facilitating strategic discussions and initiatives.
- Leads the planning and execution of high-profile alumni events, ensuring alignment with engagement and fundraising objectives.
- Develops a master calendar to track key alumni programs and ensure critical deadlines are met.
- Enhances office efficiency by developing and implementing streamlined processes for alumni engagement initiatives.
- Oversees financial and operational processes, including budgeting, purchase requisitions, and resource allocation to support engagement programs.
- Leads the implementation of a comprehensive customer service strategy that enhances alumni interactions and fosters philanthropic support.
- Oversees alumni outreach, including digital and traditional communication channels, to drive meaningful engagement.
- Other Duties as required and applicable to the position.
Requirements- Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university. Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.
- Three (3) years of professional experience in different aspects of administration and business practices; including design and implementation of policy and procedures, vendor service contracts.
