The Director, Commercial BankingProgram role works closely with the Dean of the College of Business Administration to develop a strategy for the program. Establish and meetor exceed program fundraising goals and develop and cultivate relationships with industry leaders, alumni, and donors affiliated with theprogram. Design plans/programs to provide outstanding talent to the industry and provide excellent careers for students and being a resourcefor industry personnel needs and educational needs. Ultimately establish the program as primary source of undergraduate and graduateacademic education for the banking industry.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for developingstrategies and activities for recruiting and attracting students to the program, providing excellent talent to the banking industry andensuring high placement levels and excellent careers for students. This includes interviewing prospective students, coordinating otherinterviews and tracking progress of program students.
2. Ensure adequate fund raising of the program to provide for fiscal solvencyand longevity of the program, with limited or no support from the college or university (self-funded). Continue to strive for endowment ofthe program. Manage the programs budget and forecast, as well as instructors, and adjuncts. Maintain and utilize the university P-cardprudently and ensure funds are available and properly authorized to manage the program, including advertising, promotional material,educational materials, event and trip expenditures, staff salaries, etc. Ensure program meets budget goals. Create, oversee and utilizesystems to analyze, track, and maintain all budget expenses. Manage the processing of reimbursements in iExpense system, the keeping ofrecords for monthly credit card statements and reconciliations each month. Oversee the processing of wire transfers, purchase orders, andpayment requests through the purchasing system. Manage the invoicing, tracking and follow-up of sponsorships and gifts.
3. Work withthe Faculty Director to ensure the curriculum is up to date with latest needs of the banking industry and provide students with tools toachieve success in the industry and jump start their careers. Curriculum should adhere to "applied" education and real-world experience bothinside and outside of the classroom.
4. Lead the programs advisory board, including identification and selection of members,including external leaders, who are considered cutting edge in their industry. Oversee communication channels with the program advisoryboard and conduct regular advisory board meetings throughout the academic year.
5. Manage the internships as a requirement of theprogram. Cultivate banks to provide internships and guide students to apply and obtain a minimum of one internship, but twopreferred.
6. Actively remain up to date with industry issues and changes. Communicate regularly with industry leaders, and bankingassociations and participate in industry conferences, speaking engagements, and news media as an expert in the industry. Remain up to datewith the regulatory environment. Build the programs brand in the industry, both regionally and nationally.
7. Serve as a teacher orco-teacher for one class per academic year, find guest speakers, and partner with Faculty Director and Finance Chair to hire faculty(full-time and adjunct), as necessary to deliver on the program curriculum. Provide advising to students in the program andothers.
8. Responsible for the supervision of staff which includes but is not limited to hiring, terming, disciplinary actions,performance management, staff development, etc. (administrative staff)
9. Develop, coordinate and lead external study trips definedto the program. This will include field trips to Chicagos financial district, Washington DC, and Zurich Switzerland. Develop other exposurerelated trips for the future to expose and immerse students in the industry and network with organizations that lead to internships andjobs.
10. Responsible for developing and organizing annual conferences for industry on topics that are timely and of interest to theindustry. This includes obtaining keynote speakers and panelists, if used, coordinating the location or venue and advertising to attractpeople to the conference. Obtain sponsors as required to help fund the event.
Required Knowledge, Skills andAbilities
Bachelor of Business Administration or program specific specialty
Minimum of 8 years of commercial bankingor related experience in a managerial capacity responsible for staff and budget
Supervisory experience required
Strategicplanning or large project management experience
Strong leadership, including thought leadership, relationship building andcommunication skills and energy
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Business development andfundraising experience
Undergraduate or graduate teaching experience
