Job Description:
Nassau Community College invites applications for a full-time Director of Special Programs in the Office of Institutional Advancement to provide a broad range of support in the planning, organizing, and managing of all activities related to all assigned department(s)/area(s), as aligned to the College's Strategic Plan and Goals, using the highest of ethical standards. In addition, the Director of Special Programs works expeditiously and diligently on behalf of the institution, while operating with a data-informed and equity-focused approach to enhance student access and enrollment, in collaboration with multiple internal and external stakeholders; implements and coordinates the College's special events, marketing, public relations and communications initiatives and programs to advance the goals and mission of the College, including but not limited to brand identity, internal and external communications, news media, social media, community relations; directs the special event operations at the College, including but not limited to, collaboration with all on-campus and off-campus constituents regarding space needed for all special events, meetings, conferences, etc.; works closely with all necessary campus offices to ensure a successful event including the offices of: General Counsel, Finance, Facilities Management, AV Support, Catering, Public Safety, Registrar, etc.; directs the College's media relations activities, including but not limited to, contact with media, preparation of press releases and other written communications, and providing appropriate responses to media inquiries; directs production of a wide variety of communications and informational resources and materials, including but not limited to fact sheets, brochures, articles, reports, news releases, advertising, live and taped broadcasting, public service announcements, sporting events, photographs and other media materials on a regular basis which interpret the College to the internal and external community; coordinates the photography and video needs and other relevant activities for College events; develops, supervises, and directs staff, as assigned; participates in professional development activities; maintains current knowledge of laws, codes, ordinances, regulations, and pending legislation, relative to area(s) of responsibility; assists with all reporting, external and internal, necessary for local, state and/or federal compliance in assigned area(s); assist with implementation, assessment and evaluation of policies, processes and procedures related to assigned area(s); assists in identifying and eliminating redundancies in assigned area(s), as well as working collaboratively with other administrators to eliminate redundancies and ensure effective and efficient operation of the College; works collaboratively with all relevant constituencies in the College and the Community to support efforts in assigned area(s); exhibits fiscal responsibility and accountability in the development and administering of the annual budget for the department; analyzes and reviews budgetary and financial data; controls and authorize expenditures in accordance with established resources and limitations, as directed; serves on College committees, as assigned; works effectively with diverse populations. Requirements:
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related discipline; five (5) years of professional communication, public relations and/or marketing experience; three (3) years of experience in administration, supervisory, and/or organizational leadership, and/or directing institutional initiatives or programs; experience in crisis communications, ensuring that posting important, critical messages on various communications channels occurs quickly; in-depth knowledge and skill to create, develop and implement strategic communications goals; the ability to take leadership in developing and maintaining a positive image of the College that embraces its goals and mission; familiarity with the mission, goals, and objectives of the College and the demographics of the current student body and staff of the College; knowledge of local community and service area; the ability to maintain confidentiality and work independently; knowledge and skill in identifying problems, analyzing data, and making recommendations; a high level of emotional intelligence and energy; excellent oral, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills; the ability to interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; the ability to develop collaborative relationships with students, faculty, administration, and internal and external constituencies, as well as to manage and adapt to change, make difficult decisions, encourage conflict resolution, and assure employee and department accountability; and strong management skills.
Additional Information:
In addition, the successful candidate preferably will have a Master's Degree in a related discipline; experience working in a Community College Institutional Advancement office; experience working in a unionized environment; and experience with current management system(s) and programs used in higher education and/or the related area(s), including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, Visio, and Adobe Professional, as well as being proficient in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint).
