Job DescriptionEXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, ADVANCEMENT COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING
The Executive Director of Advancement Communications and Marketing leads strategic marketing and communications efforts to advance the university's philanthropic and alumni engagement goals. Serving as the communications and marketing strategist for Advancement, the Executive Director serves as a senior advisor and collaborative partner to Advancement leadership, ensuring alignment of marketing and communications with institutional priorities and audience needs in partnership with University Marketing and Communications. This role oversees brand management, campaign messaging, digital strategy, creative and communications strategies and development across all Advancement initiatives ensuring that all messaging and storytelling efforts reflect the institution's mission, engage key audiences, and drive philanthropic and alumni engagement in a multichannel environment. The Executive Director serves as the central point of contact for campaign communications and executive project manager for the Senior Vice President for Advancement.
ResponsibilitiesManage relationships with internal and external stakeholders to craft content, marketing and communications strategies to foster donor support and institutional pride. Partner closely with Advancement units to understand goals, develop targeted messaging, and implement audience segmentation strategies. Responsible for the creation, prioritization and management of compelling content across various platforms, overseeing the development of marketing materials and digital and print publications, and aligning communications with organizational goals.
Develop and lead a unified content and marketing strategy that supports fundraising, alumni engagement and institutional reputation. Serve as a senior advisor on messaging, brand positioning, and audience engagement and segmentation for Advancement initiatives.
Collaborate closely with University Marketing and Communications to align institutional goals, share best practices and determine campus-wide calendaring. Collaborate with colleagues across campus to manage communication partnerships that support the goals, campaigns, and initiatives of Advancement. Ensure the alignment with university brand standards, champion brand consistency across all communications and campaigns.
Lead and mentor a talented, high-performing team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture. Assess and monitor strengths and weaknesses of Advancement Marketing and Communications staff. Support staff in prioritizing tasks by providing clear goals, timelines, and guidance to ensure alignment with departmental and institutional objectives. Recruits new staff as necessary to help build a high quality and diverse team. Aids in professional development as appropriate.
Define and articulate clear goals for Advancement Marketing and Communications and implement performance metrics and analytics to evaluate impact, optimize return on investment, and guide strategic decision-making.
Work closely with the outside vendors and consultants to provide strategic support to Advancement's communications and campaign initiatives.
QualificationsREQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:1. Bachelor's degree in a field related to communications is required.
2. 10 years of experience in developing and implementing a successful advancement communications program.
3. Significant experience in supervision of staff, management of budgets, strategci planning and client service.
4. Any appropriate combination of relevant experience, education and/or certification may be considered.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES TYPICALLY NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS JOB SUCCESSFULLY: 1. Excellent writing skills
2. Experience in strategic planning and client service.
3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
4. Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and handle numerous projects in a timely manner
5. Ability to adjust and respond to unscheduled developments requiring immediate attention.
6. Solid computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft suite and basic design skills.
7. An understanding of brand management across all channels.
8. Must possess strong leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate a team.
9. Comprehensive understanding of traditional and emerging media.
10. A collaborative approach to management.
