Primary Purpose of the Position:
The Major Gifts Officer will monitor annual goals in support of campus priorities. The gifts officer secures gifts through identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors and prospects; develops strategies to secure gifts; manages a portfolio of donors & prospects; maintains an aggressive visitation schedule, in person and virtual, and travels as needed to meet donors & prospects. Working with staff, the gifts officer will provide assistance to university campus and donor events as needed. Work collaboratively with staff, administrators, faculty and board members to develop solicitation strategies. Strengthen ties with existing supporters and identify and engage new donors to perpetuate their giving to the university. Engage administrators and board members as part of university advancement strategy. Maintain a robust knowledge of campus funding priorities and the university's mission and historical traditions.
Preferred Years Experience,Skills, Training , Education:
Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred. At least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in fundriaisng, knowledge of gift planning or in a field providing comparable knowledge of tax law and financial and estate planning principles. Prior fundraising experience, preferably in higher education preferred. Demonstrated ability to manage successful personal solicitations for major gift fundraising Ability to interact successfully with a wide range of individuals and positions Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage many projects simultaneously. Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills and strong written and verbal communication skills Skilled at collaborating with a variety of stakeholders Ability to coordinate and manage many projects simultaneously; attention to detail Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends, as needed. Appreciation for and support of the mission, tradition and culture of the University.
