Job DescriptionThe Posse summer intern is part of the Office of Undergraduate Education team at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor responsible for supporting communication, engagement, and digital strategy initiatives within the Posse Scholar Program. This position contributes to the development of program resources and communications, including a newsletter and website refresh, and supports the launch of new engagement efforts for alumni. Reporting directly to the Associate Provost for Academic Opportunity, the Summer Intern collaborates regularly with internal staff, website developers, and the Posse Alumni Council to ensure effective communication, successful implementation of digital projects, and the development of alumni programming. The summer intern will design a newsletter template and draft the inaugural issue for the fall semester to enhance communication with the Posse community. The intern will also support the Posse website refresh project by participating in developer meetings, compiling media and content, and providing feedback on design and functionality throughout the development process. Additionally, they will play a key role in launching the Posse Alumni Mentorship Program in collaboration with the newly formed Posse Alumni Council by assisting with planning, outreach, and content development. This role offers an excellent opportunity for a student to gain hands-on experience in communications, project management, and program development within a high-impact educational access initiative.

Key Functions and Expected Performance - Develop and deliver a newsletter template that meets program branding and communication goals, with the first Fall 2025 edition drafted and ready for review by the end of the internship.
- Ensure timely and accurate drafting of written content for digital and print use, tailored to students, alumni, and other Posse stakeholders.
- Actively participate in meetings related to the Posse website refresh and provide timely feedback that contributes to a user-centered design and improved site functionality.
- Compile high-quality media assets (e.g., photos, videos, bios) and draft original content to be used on the new Posse website, ensuring alignment with program messaging.
- Demonstrate consistent follow-through by tracking milestones and communicating progress to the Posse Program Coordinator on a weekly basis.
- Collaborate with the Posse Alumni Council to create outreach strategies and materials for the new Alumni Mentorship Program, with at least one pilot communication or resource produced during the internship.
- Assist with the logistical planning of mentorship events or meetings, ensuring that at least one planning document, communication timeline, or resource guide is created and delivered.
- Maintain organized documentation and files related to all projects to ensure knowledge continuity and ease of reference for future program staff.
- Exhibit professional communication, punctuality, and initiative throughout the internship, receiving regular feedback and adapting accordingly.
Supervisory Relationships This position does not have supervisory responsibility
Education and Certifications - A high school diploma or equivalent and current enrollment in an undergraduate degree program is necessary or recent graduate student.
- Experience with or exposure to college access/success programs (such as Posse) is preferred.
- Enrollment or Graduate at Vanderbilt University is strongly preferred, especially for students familiar with the Posse Scholar Program, though not required.
Experience and Skills - Strong written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines independently is necessary.
- Experience with creating digital content, newsletters, or websites is preferred.
- Familiarity with design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express) or email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact) is preferred.
- Collaborative experience in student leadership, mentorship programs, or alumni engagement is strongly preferred.
- Attention to detail, organizational skills, and responsiveness to feedback are necessary.
